Zeitgeist
For this paper, I identified a current zeitgeist within the fashion and beauty industry: the lack of inclusive and diverse shade ranges in luxury beauty brands. I specifically examined YSL Beauty as a case study to delve deeper into this phenomenon.
ImportancE
Diversity and inclusion are paramount to at least 60% of luxury goods consumers (Vogue Business), with many consumers refusing to label products as "luxury" if they lack inclusivity. YSL Beauty's limited shade range hinders its ability to fully engage with a significant segment of the luxury fashion and beauty community.
Solution
To become a more inclusive and forward-thinking brand, YSL Beauty should emulate the success of brands like Fenty by Rihanna and Juvia's Place by significantly expanding their shade ranges. Given their position of power and influence, it's imperative that they prioritize inclusivity and offer diverse shade ranges to cater to a wider range of consumers.
The outcome
This project culminated in a professionally written paper analyzing YSL Beauty as a case study of the lack of inclusive and diverse shade ranges in luxury beauty. The paper identifies the brand's weaknesses in this area and proposes strategies for improving diversity and inclusion to better serve their customers.
